Dan Reid Claims $15K Grand Prize in Video Golf Championship

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 24, 2004—Seasoned pro video golfer and Illinois native, Dan Reid, walked away with $15,000 in prize winnings at the first EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR® GOLF North American Championship sponsored by GLOBAL VR®. According to Reid as well as onlookers, the inaugural Championship held November 12—14 at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was an event to be remembered. “It was all well-planned. GLOBAL VR did a great job putting this together,” said Reid.

When asked if he considers himself to be a “pro” player, Reid responded, “I don’t know if I am or not. This is kind of my hobby but, I guess you could say that (I) make money at it.” And, make money at it he does. Dan is no stranger to victory in video golf. In February, Reid carried away $3,000 from the Houston Open then, later this past fall, cashed in on another $2,500 in a GLOBAL VR online tournament. While he says he doesn’t play video golf full-time, Reid still raked in nearly $40,000 in prize monies in 2004.

“Stakes were high with a $100,000 cash pot on the line,” says GLOBAL PLUS Producer, James Kucera. “The potential for big wins tends to attract the best of the best.” According to Kucera, players also spend a substantial amount of time practicing in preparation for tournaments, which should be good news to tournament-enabled locations throughout North America.

Cash winnings aside, if you ask Reid what compels him to continue playing, he will reflect warmly upon the relationships he’s built through playing golf tournaments competitively. “Our ‘group’—our community of video golfers—is pretty close-knit. Three guys that I met through video golf were actually in my wedding! It is really great getting to see all your friends and hanging out.”*
